A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Boro: Eccentric White Stitches
early to mid twentieth century
70" x 15 1/2", 178 cm x 39.25 cm
This is a wonderfully artful length of indigo dyed cotton boro which shows delightfully quirky trails of white sashiko mending stitches that meander in small circles on the top half of the panel.
The length of boro cloth is in most part made of two stitched layers and it was heavily starched so the length has a stiff and heavy feel.
But it is the stitching that is most charming about this piece--and the dark patch adhered by white stitching to the top portion of the panel is a wonderful foil to the other stitched elements that are so endearing. Please note one hole to the piece, shown in detail photos here.
A lovely boro length.
