A Length of Handwoven Striped Cotton: Rich

late nineteenth, early twentieth century

This lovely length of woven, striped cotton was taken from a futon cover.  The warp-based design shows stripes of varying widths that are in the colors of indigo, white, pink and yellow, the woven effect shows these colors muted due to the use of an indigo colored weft.

A very attractive piece of cloth from old Japan.
