A Length of Handwoven Striped Cotton: Beautifully Patched
$50.00 USD
ca. early twentieth century
68" x 13 3/4", 172.75 cm x 35 cm
What an elegantly designed, colored and patched cotton cloth.
This is a length of hand woven cotton cloth which is dyed in indigo. The stripes read grey and very dark blue and they are variegated in width.
This piece was taken from a furoshiki, a traditional wrapping and carrying cloth, and for this reason it shows seven hand applied patches to the length.
A simple yet beautiful piece of old, hand woven and hand stitched cotton from old Japan, this furoshiki fragment may be more beautiful today than when it was first woven.
