A Length of Hand Woven Stripes: Hand Spun Cotton
early twentieth century
56" x 12 3/4", 142 cm x 32.5 cm
This beautifully hand woven length of cotton shows a handsome design of woven stripes.
Striped cloth like this type was plentiful in old Japan because it was woven to be fashioned into futon covers. Not enough attention is given to Japan's old striped cottons but they are beautifully designed and wonderfully executed as this one is.
On this length we see stripes in low-contrast, slightly muted tones...the cotton is hand spun and hand woven which add richness to the overall feeling of the cloth.
A beautifully faded and worn length of hand woven cotton from old Japan.
