A Length of Graphically Interesting Shibori: Morning Glories

$45.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
58" x 13 1/4", 147.5 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a lovely length of indigo dyed cotton shibori which shows a lushly rendered repeat of large-scale flowers, more than likely morning glories.

The flowers are arranged as a "chain," each one sharing the leaves of the other: the areas of white, undyed cotton is striking in contrast to velvety blue of the indigo dye.

There are ingrained creases on this length due to its former life as the sleeve of a yukata which is a casual, unlined kimono. As well, there is some patina and wear to the surface of the piece, not at all unusual given its age.

Really lovely.
