A Length of Gauzy Katazome Cotton: Blurred Images
late nineteenth century
56" x 13", 142 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of lightweight cotton--almost gauzy in feel--that is dyed in the katazome method which uses stencils to resist dye.
The pattern is slightly blurred and skidded and it shows a repeat pattern of awkwardly (yet charming) designed chrysanthemums amid a field of arabesques.
The colors are faded and the surface of the cloth is slightly abraded.
This is a wonderfully lively length of katazome dyed cotton; just delightful.
