A Length of Elaborately Resisted Katazome: Chrysanthemums and Arabesques

$80.00 USD

late nineteenth century
63" x 13 3/4", 160 cm x 35 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed katazome cotton that was taken from a futon cover.

The pattern is lighthearted and shows a repeat of stylized chrysanthemums and arabesques that is especially cheerful. The trailing vine motif adds some playfulness to the overall design scheme as does the field of small, white dots that sets a glimmering tone to the length of indigo dyed cotton.

Of course there is some wear, fading and abrasion to this piece, but the softened blue tone is a lovely effect and works well with the happy design.

Lovely.
