A Length of Beautifully Old Patched Katazome Cotton: Hand Spun Yarns

$80.00 USD

late nineteenth century
48" x 13", 122 cm x 33 cm

Such a beautiful length of hand spun, hand woven, indigo dyed katazome cloth: the cloth is gauzy in weight and very clearly entirely hand made, from the threads up to the weaving and patching

The cotton is light in weight; the length is shown on its reverse side, the reason for this is to show the four patches which stud the piece of cotton. The patches as set against the wonderful katazome pattern is obviously beautiful. The pattern is based on hexagons--a reference to tortoiseshell and therefore conveys a wish for long life--and chrysanthemums which can be seen in the center of each hexagon and at each one of its points.

The color is good; there is one noticeable stain on the cloth which is shown in a detail photo that accompanies this post.

Fantastically good-looking, this piece can be admired on its own as "art," can be used as a home accessory, and as it is soft and supple to the touch do not hesitate enjoying this as a scarf or fashion accessory.
