A Length of Beautifully Faded Katazome Cotton: Chrysanthemums
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
62 1/2" x 13 3/4", 161 cm x 35 cm
This is a beautifully faded length of indigo dyed kasuri cotton whose delicate, overall pattern of chrysanthemums and arabesque-leaves against a stippled background. It has been softened by decades of wear.
The color is set as a lovely, warm tone: the blue is greyish and gentle and the white, undyed areas are warm from years of use.
The hand woven cotton is of a good weight and it is tightly made.
A really lovely length of katazome cloth from old Japan, and one whose soft pattern and color are really attractive.
