A Length of Beautiful White Boro: Twentieth Century Cottons
early to mid twentieth century
51 1/2" x 13 1/4", 131 cm x 35 cm
It is difficult to convey the lovely, neutral, pale-white tones of this boro length as when seen in person they are much more subtle than shown on the photographs here.
Still, the layout of patches and textures is evident and this is a large part of the appeal of this boro fragment.
This cloth was once a sleeve of a garment, which, quite understandably, was made of recycled cloth, so the origins of the fragments of this opened sleeve pre-date the garment it was taken from. The cloth on this boro piece is commercially loomed.
For those who collect boro, consider this piece. Its pieces are beautifully arranged and the pale color is unusual. It will be a real treat to own this piece.
