A Large Layered Zokin: White Commercial Cotton

$25.00 USD

ca. early to mid twentieth century
16" x 14", 40.5 cm x 35.5 cm

This is a large and thickly layered zokin, or traditional Japanese dustcloth, which has been assembled from old, discarded, handwoven and commercially produced cottons

The size is generous as is the layering: this zokin is wonderful for its boro "composition" and its quick, perfunctory sashiko stitching--and for the tonal contrast between the white and dark cotton pieces on one side, and the checked and indigo cottons on the other.

Wonderful.
