A Group of Four Narrow Resist Dyed Cotton: Three Shibori, One Katazome
mid twentieth century
each piece approximately: 39" x 7", 99 cm x 17.75 cm
Shown here are four, narrow lengths of resist dyed cotton. Three are shibori, one is katazome, and each of the shibori pieces is taken from the collar, or eri, section of a yukata, which is an unlined, cotton summer kimono. The katazome length is from a han juban.
Each of the pieces is of a slightly different dimension and the average size is shown above: the selection represented here were all made in the mid twentieth century, and each shows some ingrained creases and fading from wear.
A wonderful sampler and one that can be easily applied to any fashion or art endeavor.
