A Fragment of Stitched Together Katazome Dyed Cotton: Pine Cones
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
18" x 13 1/2", 45.75 cm x 34.25 cm
This beautiful, small fragment of indigo dyed katazome cotton is composed of three pieces that are hand stitched together.
As is quite obvious from looking at the accompanying photos, this panel shows a bold repeat pattern of pine cones and pine needles which are rendered in such a way as to suggest a weft-based kasuri weave.
The indigo color has softened to a lovely, warm blue and the expertly drawn pine cones and needles are a rich and beautiful repeat.
