A Fragment of Indigo Dyed Katazome: Very Rare Tiger Pattern

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century

This pattern of tigers and bamboo in katazome cotton is exceedingly rare to find, it is difficult to overstate how infrequently this design appears and how unusual it is.

This is a small piece of indigo dyed cotton that shows a lush field of jumping tigers who are prowling amid well-designed and executed groves of bamboo. Interesting to see the depiction of the tiger when seen head-on: his face flattens as he stares at us.

Finding this pattern again will be a challenge if it is possible. For the lucky one who acquires this it would be such fun to hang it and to enjoy it as artwork--it is a delight to see.

Recommended.
