A Fragment of Beautifully Designed Katazome Cotton: One Patch

$65.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
18 1/2" x 13", 47 cm x 33 cm

This is a faded fragment of beautifully designed and indigo dyed katazome cotton.

It shows a repeat pattern of elongated diamond shapes in stacked, crowded, regular columns, half light in tone, half dark in tone.

The light toned diamonds show a field of stylized chrysanthemums and the dark toned diamond show a four petaled flower, perhaps a melon flower.

There is one patch on the piece, shown in the lead photo here and there is also a faint, grey colored stain, also shown on an accompanying detail photo on this post.

A great little piece of katazome cotton from old Japan.
