A Cotton Shibori Length: Ivy and Miura
mid twentieth century
50" x 13 1/4", 127 cm x 33.5 cm
This length of shibori dyed cotton shows a repeat pattern of ivy leaves, rendered in a stitched shibori technique, against a background of miura shibori.
The indigo dye is not natural and the cotton is not hand woven which is typical of shibori from the era in which this was made. The fragment is taken from a yukata, an unlined summer kimono.
In good, used condition, this is a really lovely length of shibori dyeing and shows a wonderful mix of stitched and tied shibori techniques.
