A Complex Plaid Boro Length: Showa Period
early to mid twentieth century
66" x 13 3/4", 168 cm x 35 cm
This length of cotton into which a complex plaid pattern is woven is just lovely--and it is mended with around 9 or so small sized cotton patches.
The plaid is made from a pale yellow and a sienna brown that, against the blackish background, emit a kind of tonal luminosity when the warp and weft dyed cotton yarns converge.
Taken from a futon cover, this length of cotton is well-worn and shows at least one small hole that remains unpatched.
A very handsome length of cotton from old Japan.
