A Complex and Reversible Katazome Length: Stencil Resisted on Both Sides

$120.00 USD

late nineteenth century
32" x 13", 81.25 cm x 33 cm

This piece of katazome dyed cotton is perfectly clear and bright on both its sides. This means that the cloth was stenciled on each side, the purpose of which is to create a crisp, clean image as we see here. The design is so even on each side that this length is fully reversible.

The length shows a complex pattern of a stylized chrysanthemums that are fit into interlocking hemp leaf designs forming a repeat pattern.

A kind of rich beige-orange color is used to highlight the pattern and it, in combination with the white areas, gives a shimmering effect to the length.

The cotton is lightweight and the overall condition is good and used.

A beautiful length of katazome dyed cotton from old Japan.

Recommended and beautiful.
