This lightweight, probably machine loomed cotton length is woven in a plaid that is composed of a palette of soft autumnal colors.

SevenĀ cotton patches of various colors are hand stitched to the surface; no doubt this was a panel from a futon cover, and the woven design is very much like a good deal of cloth that was produced in Japan in the 1930s and 40s. Please note one small tear to the cloth shown in the accompanying detail photograph.

A great color combination and charming patched textile from old Japan.
