A Boro Futon Cover Fragment: Possible Semamori
$50.00 USD
early twentieth century
59" x 13", 150 cm x 33 cm
This is a lovely panel taken from a futon cover, the panel itself is recycled from old, indigo dyed cottons, one of which, on the bottom half, seems to be from a noragi or work coat.
The length is subtle and attractive for its old, beautifully worn indigo dyed cottons--and if you notice on the attached detail photo there are small, white stitches in strange configurations: more than likely these are semamori, protective stitches which were applied to ward off evil.
A wonderfully quiet and beautiful old boro panel.
