A Boldly Patterned Shibori Length: Hand Spun Cotton
early twentieth century
46" x 11 1/2", 117 cm x 29 cm
This boldly designed length of indigo dyed cotton shibori is wonderful for several reasons: for its fine cotton which is hand woven from home spun yarns; for its deep, deep indigo blue color; for its rich, graphic pattern.
The narrow length of cotton is inky blue; the indigo saturates the home spun cotton yarns in a beautiful way, contrasting sharply with the resisted areas of cotton.
The repeat is of the traditional Japanese well cover design, a kind of ancient hashtag shape.
In good, used condition, this is a stunning length of shibori dyed cloth, exceptional for its very good dyeing and its wonderful cotton.
