A Beautifully Woven Sakiori Obi: Rustic Rag Weaving
mid twentieth century
102" x 5 1/2", 259 cm x 14 cm
This is a very good-looking sakiori obi, which is a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The weft yarns are thick and rich in texture as can be easily seen in the accompanying detail photographs and the colors are in wonderful combination. The staggered colored warp yarns create a kind of checkerboard effect which is a beautiful addition to the overall aesthetic quality of the hand woven obi.
Again, the texture and colors of this rag woven obi are just beautiful and make this a special piece. In good, used condition with two unfinished edges.
A beautifully executed folk textile.
