A Beautifully Woven and Colored Sakiori Obi: Contained Areas of Loss

$85.00 USD

mid twentieth century
113" x 7 3/4", 287 cm x 19.5 cm

Shown here is a sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a weft of shredded, recycled cloth--in this case it is cotton.

The warp yarns are white in color which add a visual haze muting the weft yarn colors--an attractive touch.

The weft rag yarns are narrow, horizontal slivers of a variety of colors that, in combination, create a lovely spectrum of tones.

Please do note the areas of loss to the weft yarns primarily on one of the ends of the obi, in this case it can be seen on the left hand side of the photograph. There are a few, small, bean-sized and similar areas of loss on the obi itself.

A beautifully colored sakiori obi in used condition with the flaws just detailed above and in keeping with its age.

Beautifully colored and designed.
