A Beautifully Patterned Cotton Boro Length: Faded Katazome

$110.00 USD

late nineteenth century
60" x 13", 152.5 cm x 33 cm

This is a very beautiful length of indigo dyed cotton boro cloth.  It is a fragment from a futon cover, showing a repeat pattern of stencil resist dyed, or katazome, flowers in the midst of a field of karakusa, the arabesque or trailing vine motif.

The length is beautifully mended, there are 4 cotton patches in all; they are clustered in the middle of this boro cloth, near the proper right hand side.

The hand woven cotton cloth is really lovely and heavy in the hand, and the mid-toned indigo is beautifully faded to a soft blue.

Just beautiful--and recommended.
