This is a gorgeous length of rustic, hand woven cotton showing two types of plaid cloth.
There are about ten patches on this length, the patches being of the same cloth as the base along with a different type of checked cotton.
The result of this staggered and layered patching of the two types of plaid over the base is one of beautifully, almost Cubist-style fracturing of pattern and surface.
The colors are muted and the cloth is old--this length of boro cloth conjures up the spirit of Japan in its former times and it is a wonderful fragment to own.
