A Beautifully Designed Sakiori Obi: Color Change
mid twentieth century
114" x 5 1/4", 290 cm x 13.25 cm
This is a beautifully hand woven sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The weave is done in such a way that a kind of staggered, columnar effect, sometimes suggesting checkerboard. Just beautiful.
Note as well the surprising color change to the obi: about a sixth of the way into it the blue/red combination gives way to a red/black or black/pinkish color combination, which is an unexpected, exotic surprise.
This rustic obi is in good, used condition and it is an especially handsome folk textile in a beautiful color palette--this obi a rare treat.
Very recommended.
