A Beautiful Length of Katazome Cotton: Large Scale Shippo Tsunagi
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
33 1/2" x 13", 85 cm x 33 cm
This boldly patterned, resist dyed or katazome, indigo cotton short length shows a large-scale version of the traditional shippo tsunagi or interlocking circles motif.
The indigo is an inky blue-black color, the resisted white is quite bright and the orange/rust colored details are restrained.
The graphic quality of the design is great; the overall condition the same.
A wonderful piece of indigo dyed cotton from old Japan.
