A Beautiful Kasuri Panel: Clear Indigo Blue
early twentieth century
54" x 13", 137 cm x 33 cm
This length of indigo dyed cotton was dyed in the kasuri method: in this technique, yarns are resisted before they are dyed in order to create a pattern when the cloth is hand woven.
In this case we see a beautiful palette of indigo blues and an elegant pattern of stripes and checks, very discreet and well executed. Please note one small hole, illustrated in the accompanying detail photos.
More than likely the cotton yarns are hand spun and of course this length is hand woven. The color is still very rich and the overall condition is good considering its age and the fact that it was used in the home.
A really attractive length of kasuri cotton.
