A Beautiful and Rustic Boro Mosquito Netting: Indigo Dyed Cotton
early twentieth century
70" x 12", 178 cm x 30.25 cm
This is a particularly beautiful, cotton boro kaya or mosquito netting.
Its beauty resides in its lovely, warm blue color, the large checked pattern and the rustic, old, fairly thick cotton threads which were used to weave this length.
The patching to this kaya is also top-notch, with 7 patches, each of which is hand stitched to the beautifully woven base cloth. The kaya also shows about five small stitched mendings and the surface of the cloth shows some snags and holes due to age and wear.
A visual treat, this boro kaya has many alluring qualities, chief among them its indigo dyed color, its artful patching and its beautifully woven texture.
