This is a good looking, rustically woven obi or kimono sash that is made of a cotton warp and probably thick, cotton weft yarns. The effect is that of a rag woven obi and at first glance you might think it is sakiori or rag weave.

The design seems fairly random with much of the multi-colored weft yarns concentrated on one end of the obi, presumably the part that would have been seen when worn.

Approximately two thirds of the obi shows a less mottled and textured design with the warp yarns being finer than the slubby and nubby ones that are woven into the first third of the length.

In good condition this is a handsome, traditional kimono sash whose variation in design is surprising and visually interesting.
