Shown here is a sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a grey colored cotton warp and a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.
The rag weft yarn is arranged in beautifully colored, regularly spaced bars of color, ordered in regular blocks.
The grey, purple, black, mottled grey and mottled pink tones of the rag weft play wonderfully off each other and create a very handsome color story on this utilitarian, hand woven textile.
A particularly good example of a sakiori obi for its color and its good, used condition and the quality of weaving used to make it.
