A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Big Checkerboard

$65.00 USD

mid twentieth century
57" x 13 1/4", 145 cm x 33.5 cm

This length of boldly designed indigo dyed cotton shibori was taken from a yukata which is an unlined, casual cotton kimono--and the ingrained creases present on this length attest to the fact that it was once part of a garment.

The design is graphic as it shows large-scale squares that alternate light and dark. The light squares are undyed cotton and the dark squares are made with a field of small dots of tie dye.

Beautifully designed and executed this is a lovely length of shibori dyed cotton, most assuredly from Narumi/Arimatsu one of the great shibori production centers in Japan.
