A Four Panel Section of a Hemp Mosquito Net: Cotton Patches

$245.00 USD

early twentieth century
61" x 49", 155 cm x 124.5 cm

This is a patched hemp or ramie mesh kaya or traditional mosquito netting.  The cloth is an open weave and is translucent.

These four panels, hand stitched to one another, were taken from a larger piece which would have been composed as a tent. The tent would have been suspended from the ceiling of a room and would have enclosed a bed or beds

The green tone is beautifully dulled from time and the cloth is of an open weave.

The cloth shows about seven patches, each hand stitched to the base, the base cloth tilts slightly up to the right.

The patches on the kaya add to its beauty--and its beauty changes character when the piece is back lit.

Recommended.
