A Large Boro Futon Cover: Wonderful Kasuri Details

$145.00 USD

early twentieth century
74" x 50", 188 cm x 127 cm

This large boro textile was taken from a futon cover: it is four loom widths wide and the majority of the kasuri woven cotton used to make this cover was taken from a kimono and then recycled.

Notable is the horizontal band of hand woven, indigo dyed kasuri cotton on the top of the piece, the fragment on the left is Kurume gasuri, a very distinctive type of geometric kasuri produced in Kyushu.

The futon cover has a few holes shown in the detail photos and its large size and good patching--and its old cloth--makes for an interesting textile collage.

A handsome and good-sized old textile offered at a friendly price.
