A Beautiful Length of Indigo Dyed Boro Cotton: Wedge Shaped Piece

$110.00 USD

early twentieth century
77" x 13", 195.5 cm x 33 cm

Not only is this an aesthetically beautiful length of old indigo dyed cotton boro, it also is noteworthy for its wonderful, hand spun, hand woven cotton base cloth.

The quality of the cotton here is exactly what you want to find in old Japanese folk textiles as it is rich in "thread flavor" or ito aji as it is known in Japan.

That said, it is also interesting to focus on the wonderful arrangement of the tone-on-tone patches that make for such a handsome boro length--the wedge-shaped piece adds special interest and it is fairly clear that this was taken from the collar section of a recycled kimono.

A desirable boro length and one that is recommended.
