Shown here is a subtly toned, striped and mottled sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a black colored cotton warp and a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.
The rag weft yarn is arranged in beautifully down-played colored, regularly spaced bars of color, ordered in regular stripes
The mottled tones of the background and stripes are subdued by the dark haze provided by the black cotton warp yarns against which the rag weft rags are colored.
A nice example of a sakiori obi for its low contrast, tonal color and its good, used condition.
