This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.

Its coloration is based in bars of tones of mottled grey, brick, black and with an occasional appearance of bright green.

The warp yarns are of black, white and red dyed cotton which give depth of color and a plaid effect to the obi. This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the colors are handsome and offer some visual surprises.

A beautiful, richly toned folk textile in a fairly unusual color palette, this is a good example of a sakiori obi.
