A Length of Rustic Katazome: Patched and Pieced

$70.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
56 1/2" x 13 1/2",  143.5 cm x 34 cm

This faded, rustic length of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth is hand stitched from 2 separate pieces and the surface has seen a good amount of wear.

Overall the indigo tone has dulled very nicely and this adds to its country charm--as does the lovely mending patch to the upper, right hand side. This appeal is heightened by the uneven fading and the small tears (shown). The pattern is that of stylized chrysanthemums and arabesques.

This cloth is old and worn and in many cases, this being one of them, the exertion of time and wear creates a new aesthetic appreciation for us to enjoy.
