A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Invented Flowers

$55.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
30 1/2" x 12 1/2", 77.5 cm x 32 cm

This playfully designed length of indigo dyed katazome cotton shows a pattern of a kind of triple-tiered cherry blossom against a dark pattern of swirling arabesque. The flowers are tinted with a grey tone which adds further levity to this charming pattern.

The length is missing one of its selvedges which is difficult to notice if you glance quickly. The pattern or design of the cloth is so nice to look at that this is an irrelevant detail.

There is some light fading and slight surface abrasion to this length and the hand woven, hand spun yarns that are used to create it add depth and integrity to the length.
