A Length of Faded and Worn Katazome Cotton: Beauty with Age

$65.00 USD

late nineteenth century
32" x 14", 81.5 cm x 35.5 cm

This is a well-worn, quite faded length of indigo dyed katazome cotton whose pattern is delicate and shows stylized chrysanthemums amid a field of arabesques.

The faint pattern becomes beautiful when viewed for the effect time has had on it: the lightening of the indigo, the wear to the surface, the uneven fading, the pulls and tears to the cloth all add up to a beautiful aesthetic presentation.

The cotton yarns are hand spun which add thread integrity to this old length of cloth and its hand spun nature calls on us to appreciate that time and tradition are embedded into the fabric of this cloth.

Just lovely for its aged appeal.
