A Rustic Boro Hemp Length: Undyed and One Cotton Patch

$60.00 USD

ca. early twentieth century
68" x 11 1/2", 172.5 cm x 29 cm

This is a rustic length of coarse hemp cloth.  It is woven from thick, plied yarn, yet it is quite soft to the touch.

It is sewn from two pieces of cloth--one short and irregularly-shaped-- and the length is mended, as can be seen by the two patches, one cotton and one hemp, that are hand sewn to this beautifully rough length of cloth.   The hemp patch is partially sewn to the surface; some of the original stitching to the patch is missing.

Most likely this piece of hemp cloth was taken from a country futon.

Its undyed color, its raw texture and its two patches make this a very attractive country textile, especially if you like asa or the bast fiber cloth of old Japan.  Some very small stains throughout.

Recommended.
