A Sashiko Stitched Furoshiki: Embellished Corners

This is an indigo dyed sashiko stitched furoshiki, a furoshiki being a traditional wrapping/hauling/carrying cloth which was ubiquitous in old Japan.

The sashiko stitched corners are embellished more to add durability than for decoration, but the decoration is a plus: two of the corners show stylized chrysanthemums and the top, left hand corner shows the traditional asa no ha or hemp leaf design.

Note the repair to the furoshiki and the well-worn surface, the result of years of service. Pay attention, as well, to the sashiko stitched finishing on the left and right hand side side of the cloth.

A really lovely example of a simply designed, straightforward indigo dyed, sashiko stitched furoshiki.
