A Ragged, Layered Sashiko Stitched Diaper: Old Cloth

$30.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
23" x 12", 58.5 cm x 30.5 cm

The charming, sashiko stitched and katazome dyed boro textile is a diaper.

Three or four layers of recycled indigo dyed cotton cloth were stitched together to create it and by looking at the detail photos attached, the layers are obvious: peeking out of the top layer of very abraded indigo dyed cotton are examples of hand spun cotton stripes, plaids and what appear to be two different patterns of katazome dyed cotton.

The abraded side is quite faded from time and from wear and it is also patched.  Its top layer is torn and is peeling away on its upper half.

Super charming, this cloth shows wonderful age and wear--and its wear adds a great deal to its appeal.
