A Wonderful Old Sakiori Obi: Heavy White Warp

$120.00 USD

early twentieth century
120" x 7", 305 cm x 18 cm

This is a very good sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The warp yarns are very noticeable white cotton; the color of the rags used as weft yarns are considerably muted by the very present white of the warp, which is a beautiful detail to this obi--the obi shows very good age and is a very good example of an old sakiori kimono sash.

The two ends of the obi are hand finished with dark, figured cotton and this can be seen on the accompanying detail photos.  There is ingrained dirt and some faint staining to this piece, understandable for its age.

A beautiful folk textile.

Recommended.
