A Length of Indigo Dyed Kasuri Cotton: Beautifully Hand Spun Yarns

$60.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
57 1/2" x 12", 144.75 cm x 30.5 cm

When collecting old Japanese cotton folk textiles, its thread flavor, or ito aji, is one of the most important qualities to look for.  This length of indigo dyed cotton kasuri is woven from absolutely beautiful hand spun cotton yarns and its thread flavor is exceedingly rich.

The pattern, too, is just beautiful: running down the center of the cloth is the arrow feather motif; flanking it on both sides are a riff on the well cover motif which are interspersed with Xs.

The finished cloth is extremely supple in the hand and it flows beautifully.  The indigo color is pure blue.

In good condition for its age and showing a beautiful design, this is a simply beautiful length of old, indigo dyed Japanese kasuri.
