A Length of Boro Kasuri: Patches

$40.00 USD

ca. early twentieth century
57" x 13", 144.75 cm x 33 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed kasuri cotton that shows large windowpane checks which enclose alternating white kasuri checks inside.

The staggering of the white kasuri is really lovely as is the application of 6 patches, 5 of which are hand stitched to the base cloth.

The base cloth, which is of hand woven cotton, a very, very slight pale soiling to areas of the surface which is extremely hard to detect, probably the ingrained remnants of rice starch.

A really interesting and handsome length of hand woven kasuri boro cloth from old Japan.
