A Length of Egasuri Cotton: Stripes, Flowers, Drums

$80.00 USD

late nineteenth century
55" x 13", 139.5 cm x 33 cm

This is a really beautiful length of rustic, indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth which was more than likely taken from a futon cover.

The design is organized around three vertically-oriented sets of four stripes which are intersected by weft-based white colored kasuri images of what appear to be peonies and drums.

The beautifully textured quality of the cotton broadcasts it as being hand woven and there are some small holes, tears and surface abrasions to the cloth which are shown on the accompanying photographs.

A really beautiful length of old hand woven cotton and a lovely, personal link to old Japan.
