A Length of Boro Kasuri Cotton: Leftover Threads and Three Kasuri Patterns

$65.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
21" x 12 3/4", 53.5 cm x 32.25 cm

This is a wonderful length of indigo dyed boro cloth which shows three different types of kasuri cotton.

The base cloth is really interesting: it shows regularly placed and staggered, large-scale islands of a plaid form amid a field of stripes.  What is interesting about the indigo dyed ground, aside from its absolutely gorgeous, cobalt blue color, is that there is evidence of leftover kasuri yarns woven as weft or fill.

Another pattern of kasuri cotton in the form of a large patch is prominently placed on this ground, the pattern being a checkerboard of sorts.

On the top, right-hand corner there is a small patch of a third type of kasuri which shows a weft-based, picture kasuri or egasuri flower.

An eye-dazzling piece, this short length of indigo dyed cottons has a lot of beautiful, visual interest in the cloth that is used to compose it.

Lovely.
